Other town councils i.e. Llugazi and Njeru are served by national water

safe water coverage

The district safe water coverage as of the end of last financial year 2012 / 13 stands at 66.7%. Ngogwe and Buikwe sub counties having the highest safe water coverage and Nyenga  Sub county the least

with 66.7% safe water coverage, this means that 33.3% of the people of Buikwe district do not access safe water so the political leaders should lobby for development partners and more funding from central government to address the un served population.

The district sanitation coverage

the district sanitation coverage stands at 62.4 % and the 37.6% population with poor sanitation facilities basically is on the landing sites as Buikwe  District is being surrounded by shores of lake Victoria.

Challenges

Soil formation around lake shores do not permit construction of pit latrines.

Many trading centers are upgrading to rural growth centers and thus the need to as well upgrade from point water sources to piped water systems however this involves a lot of money and yet the sector budget ceiling does not change, to match with the required investment.

There is an over whelming demand for deep boreholes in the communities as many people are applying to get boreholes. However the drilling of deep boreholes is increasingly becoming very expensive with increasing fuel prices.
