Bukedi Bee Keepers Association (BuBA) sensitizing the DEC and the District Technical Planning Committee members on their 05year strategic plan for 2023-2027 at the district boardroom today.This was intended to make the stakeholders understand what they intend to do in relation to the bee keeping project.While making his presentation, Mr. Gabengere Isaac working with BuBA, informed members that the project is aimed at increasing income levels of the vulnerable and poor bee farmers in Bukedi sub region by 2027 , strengthen to access better markets for the bee products, improve adoption of environmental conservation practices among vulnerable and poor bee farmers.He added that the bee initiative was due to the missing link between farmers, un-coordination and poor productivity.He encouraged the team to put hives around the trees at their domiciles to enable them harvest honey and venom in future even after retirement.He called upon them to take mantle in the business of bee keeping and also sensitize communities to embrace the bee project for better livelihoods in Bukedi.He emphasized that they offer a service of setting a yard for civil servants and the other roles get back to the individual with their support.“Bee products are a source of income,medicine and environment conservation,”Mr.Gabengere  said.He made mention of some of the planned activities under the project that included; training farmers in apiculture as a business, provide follow-up mentoring and refresher support to targeted communities,train targeted bee keepers on value addition of bee products among others.He further explained that they have started sensitizing farmers around wetlands for environmental conservation.The District stakeholders appreciated the bee keeping project and promised their support in it’s successful implementation.BuBA is a registered NGO operating in the 04 districts of Budaka,Kibuku,Butebo and Pallisa.
