GCF tasks Budaka District to register success stories on wetland restoration in the new project.This follows a number of consecutive trails by the district with support from Green Climate Fund to restore Irabi wetland in Tademeri Sub County.According to Mr. Kijali Kamwadda, the District Natural Resource officer who doubles as the focal point person for the project, he informed the meeting that the name of the project is “Building resilient communities, wetland Ecosystems and associated catchments in Uganda”.He added that the project is embedded on 03 out puts that comprised of; restoration and management of wetlands, improved agriculture and livelihoods and early warning systems.Mr. Kijali further explained the different activities to be undertaken at Nyanza wetland like rapid assessment, demarcation of 100M of the wetland and restoration of 200 hectares of land.He also emphasized that farmers who have been involved in the farming activity will be identified, trained and given alternative livelihoods.The Officer from GCF then called upon for both the political and technical support for the success of the project.She asked the Focal person to ensure all stakeholders are involved and all beneficiaries captured for restoration purposes.She also noted that Irabi wetland registered a failure though hoped for the best in the nearby future. Building resilient communities, wetland Ecosystems in Uganda is a project that commenced in the district in 201, funded by Green Climate Fund in partnership with UNDP.The project so far is also being implemented in 12 districts of Eastern Uganda where Budaka is a beneficiary, kibuku, Pallisa, Mbale and Namutumba among others.
