Administration

The District is divided into two counties namely Budaka and Iki-Iki counties. There are twenty sub-counties,six Town Councils and 14 subcounties. The District constitutes of 76 parishes and 323 village councils, distributed as in Table 2.1. Iki-Iki County covers most of the district area as it comprises of eleven sub-counties,followed by Budaka County,which comprises of nine  sub-counties. The District has three Town Boards namely: Kamonkoli, Iki-Iki,Budaka,Lyama,Kachomo and Naboa Town Council.

The District Council is the highest political authority in the District, with 43 members under the headship of the District Chairperson Hon.Pajje Emmanuel. The District chairperson is Hon.PajjeEmmanuel. The compostion of the District Council membership include: directely elected male councillors, directly elected Female councillors, Youths and PWDs representatives. Some female councillors represent more than one sub-county for Lyama and Nansanga, Budaka Tc and Budaka Sc, Naboa and Kakule,and Iki-Iki and Katira.

The District has a total of three Members of Parliament (MPs). The two MPs represent the counties of Budaka and Iki-iki and the district is represented by the Woman MP. Hon Kasolo Robert represents represents Iki-Iki county in Parliament, Hon Mboizi A.Wako represents Budaka county and Hon.Kamogo Nasiyo Pamela represents Budaka district as a woman member of Parliament.

The District staffing position as at august 2024

The District has a technical team headed by the Chief Administrative Officer Mr.Mugolo Richard, distributed in thirteen departments and two units. Each of the departments and units has a head and under every department, there are a number of Sections.The staffing position is at 50 percent at the District headquarters, only 70percent at the sub-county level and only 60 percent in Budaka Town Council At departmental level, the most affected deparments/units are: Community Based services (80% filled), Production and marketing (66%filled). All heads of department are in substantive positions acting capacity.

The heads of department who are substantively appointed include District Education Officer (U1E), District Planner (U2) and the District Internal Auditor (U2).The District staffing gaps has alot of implications on service delivery and public service management function. There is need to have all the necceray strategies to attract and retain strategic staffs.
