A total of 29 heifers and 27 goats have today been distributed to 56 farmers from Tademeri subcounty to improve on the livelihoods of those utilizing wetlands.Speaking to the beneficiaries this evening, the District Natural Resource Officer, Mr.Kamwada Kijali urged the farmers to take care of the heifers and goats as their personal property.Mr.Kamwada informed members that the project is intended to improve on their livelihoods rather than depending on only the wetlands.“There have been rumours among some beneficiaries that the wetland is in the process of being sold, this is not true,” Mr.Kamwada said.According to the District Chairperson, Mr. Pajje Emmanuel, he clarified that government is not chasing them away from the wetlands but rather showing them the best way to do their farming.Mr. Pajje also emphasized the issue of the wetlands being government property and asked the members to support government programs for improved livelihoods. He then encouraged the parents to provide school requirements to their children as schools open for better education.Mr. Magaja Steven, the Assistant RDC Budaka encouraged the farmers to take care of their animals for better yields. He called for teamwork from the communities on issues of security of their property.
